Oh what a wonderful film! This is Hayley Mills’ first adult role and one of her finest performances! A sensitive and beautiful story about a young married couple who encounter problems consulmating their marriage. It was considered controversial when released, but is very mild compared to today’s films. This beautiful film is long overdue for a release in the U.S. The whole cast is brilliant and the story is beautiful. John Mills gives an outstanding performance. The story will move you. The acting is suburb, and the scenery is beautiful. Least yet to mention, a beautiful music score by Paul McCartney that adds the finsihing touches to make this outstanding in every sense! This is a must for all of Hayley’s fans, and if you are not a fan, you will when you see this film. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a series of Hayley’s British films that are not released here to encourage studios to release more of her treasured British films. It’s time for those sleepy studios to wake up and realize that America still loves Hayley Mills. It is certainly one of my top ten all time favorites, and it gets better each time I view it. Surprise your eyes with this remarkable film! They don’ make excellent films and have superior performances like this anymore.

Why did it take so long for this first rate film to show up on DVD? It concerns a just married young man who for reasons more psychological than physical cannot consummate his relationship with his new wife. What makes this film a standout is that it takes a subject which by its very nature could have been crass and buffonish, and treates it instead with warmth and sympathy. The peformances and credible and winning throughout, giving the feeling of real and complex human beings, not caricatures. Highly recommended.

The second season of Robot Chicken, created by geek-god Seth Green, continues the stop motion, action figure starring insanity that made the groundbreaking first season of the show so entertaining. If you enjoyed the first season of the show, you should know what to expect here: skits ranging from Star Wars to classic TV shows and cartoons, to politically charged moments, celebrity-aimed knocks, to just plain blink and you miss it insanity. However, there are some misses to this season, including a segment starring both Corey Haim and Corey Feldman as themselves, which is almost painful to watch. The good however, greatly outweighs the bad, as we see a crazed Ted Turner (not voiced by himself) masquerade around as Captain Planet, Barney the purple dinosaur looking for love, Castro playing “Dance, Dance, Revolution”, a fantastic Highlander spoof starring the current day teen queens, and plenty, plenty more to boot. Also like the first season of the show, there is a horde of voice talent to be found with the second season of Robot Chicken, including Green, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Scarlet Johansson, Charlize Theron, Paul Rudd, David Hasselhoff, Seth MacFarlane, Christian Slater, Phyllis Diller, Breckin Meyer, Miguel Ferrer, Dana “Master Shake” Snyder, Dan Milano, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Michelle Trachtenberg, Ginnifer Goodwin, Macaulay Culkin, Bruce Campbell, Peter Gallagher, Emma Caulfield, Melanie Griffith, Gene Simmons, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, Weird Al, Kelly Hu, Roddy Piper, and Hulk Hogan. There’s a great selection of special features to be found on this two disc set, and yes, like it says on the cover, season two of Robot Chicken is uncensored, and even funnier than you may think it would be without the bleeps. All in all, even for casual Adult Swim viewers, season two of Robot Chicken is a must own.

The Archie sketch is deleted from the “Veggies for Sloth” episode. Yep, another sketch gone because of legal trouble, just like the Teen Titans sketch from season 1. Also, some of the episodes still have bleeps in them, and are not truly uncensored like the box says. Other than that, the dvd is good.

“Into the West” is an underrated jewel of Irish filmmaking that follows a rather unconventional storyline: a down-and-out father, Papa Reilly, (Gabriel Byrne), leads a uncomfortable existence in a Dublin slum along with his two young sons. The poverty and bleakness is overwhelming and not what one would put a question to from a Disney film (which it is) . Starving children utter on streetcorners for money, fathers drink away the welfare money, and education and sanitary conditions seem alien. This is not the Ireland of “The Tranquil Man” or even “The Secret of Roan Inish.”

Papa Reilly is a traveller, or gypsy, although he has forsaken the venerable ways after his wife’s death. His father-in-law tries to convince him in vain to return to the roads, but Reilly stands firm, insolently refusing all serve. His two sons Tito and Ossie plunge in worship with a mysterious white horse that has followed their grandfather’s caravan, and the two claim Tir na Nog as their contain (but the horse had claimed them first) . The lines between fantasy and reality are blurred, and this is not objective a children’s film, nor is it solely for an older audience. It is hybrid of mythology and magic noteworthy like “The Secret of Roan Inish,” another Irish fairytale of a film that also dealt with magical animals (in that case seals) .

The rest of the movie requires suspension of disbelief, including several amazing scoot scenes, but the heartwarming stories of the two boys coming to terms with their past (their mother’s death, their father’s alcoholism) and forging stronger bonds of brotherhood, and the grieving father and widower coming to terms with his loss and resolving to open a fresh life with his sons as the king of the travellers once more, truly fabricate this a touching and unforgettable film.

The scenery is shapely, from the bleak, grey Dublin slums to the gently sloping western mountains, spectacular craggy cliffs and crashing seaspray. The soundtrack is a blend of Irish music primitive and original, with contributions from Shaded 47, the Rankin Family and Clannad. Patrick Doyle (”Shipwrecked”) still the net, which uses Irish instruments and haunting Irish Gaelic vocals to execute atmosphere.

There are several tense moments during action sequences which may reveal ugly to younger children, but nothing overly objectionable in “Into The West.” Younger children may earn it a bit stupid and hard to follow, but patience is truly a virtue in the case of this magical film.

In Irish mythology, Tir Na Nog is the home of eternal youth. Which is fitting, because “Into the West” is a movie for those of us who remain young-at-heart. That may sound cheesy, but my 6-year-old brother couldn’t sit quiet long enough to pay attention the first time we watched this movie. My sister and myself, who were in our teens when it was first released on video, were completely captivated. In fact, the only thing remotely depraved w/ this movie is the map it was marketed when it hit theaters. The trailers didn’t provide a clue as to what this film was about, or the magic it held. The 2 young boys are agreeable actors, and Gabriel Byrne is very wonderful as their loving, if depressed father. The lyricism and fairytale quality to the film are enchanting, and the ending may very well leave you tearing up. For a paunchy evening of Irish folklore, survey this in a double-bill w/ “The Secret of Roan Inish.”

How incredible this movie is out in Fresh Zealand already! This was splendid on two levels, my 3 year ancient daughter was entranced by it, and it had a positive fable line to follow. It reminded me a bit of Rapunzel and Swan Lake maybe it was the flying horse? But a strong heroine again - it also returned to the utilize of classical music which I enjoyed listening to in the background.

With two main characters and a winged horse (who is ‘Barbie’s’ sister but has been under enchantment), the sage was easier for the kids to follow along. the costumes were more reminiscent of classical fairytales as well. I guess I will be getting a bit of pains from my kids about buying them the toys to go with this. I don’t know if I will or not - but at least other barbie dolls can be stale in the fray - Anneliese and Erika could be dressed up - even rapunzel, or using Marzipan from Nutcracker if you have any of them

The animation on tis was very ample I loved the draw the hair moved during the ice skating scenes for instance so it seems to be getting better with each movie. There were generous intellectual colours. the 3D is tremendous too and the glasses that approach with this are Barbie branded, however, impartial recognize out, the littlies don’t like keeping them on their noses and are more keen in experimenting with everything else in the house - 4 pairs don’t last long. you can order more but it is an expensive kind of novelty - I consider I appreicated it more than they did!

This is a pleasant movie, but all I would ask is that Barbie goes befriend to all singing all dancing like in Princess and the Pauper, that was a expansive movie!

If you are looking for a great, feel-good holiday movie that everyone can enjoy, this is your movie. It is not just another typical cartoon, though. There is a nice mix of comedy, drama, and great holiday fun to turn this into the next holiday classic.
We begin with Scott Calvin, a divorced businessman with a child. His wife has got another man in her life that Charlie, their son, looks up to, while Scott is still alone. It is Scott’s turn to take Charlie for Christmas that year, but Charlie is less than enthusiastic about staying with his work-involved, unattentive father. Nothing goes well for them that night with dinner (it is actually quite a humorous affair), and you can sense the distance between the father and son.
Later on that night is when things change. Scott scares Santa Claus into falling off of the roof. Charlie nags Scott into putting on the Santa suit and getting into the sleigh. From that point, there is non-stop action until morning as Scott finishes up Santa’s job. At the North Pole later that night, Scott finds out that he is now subject to the Santa Clause and that he has become the new Santa whether he wants to be or not.
The next morning, Scott wakes up and assumes that it was all a great big dream. He is in for a rude awakening, though, when Charlie remembers the whole thing and insists that it happened. Scott spends the year denying that tey took a trip to the North Pole. All the while, his body undergoes some pretty hilarious changes in preparation for the upcoming Christmas.
Along with Tim Allen as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus and Eric Lloyd as a very cute little Charlie, there is a great supporting cast to add to the movie. Judge Reinhold plays as Charlie’s role model and his mother’s (played by Wendy Crewson) new boyfriend. He is a dull psychiatrist that manages to add his own humor to the story with his disbelief of Christmas and his loud sweaters. There is also the unforgettable David Krumholtz as the elf Bernard. Bernard has been around for quite a long time (just ask him) and has dealt with more than one Santa. Charlie takes a liking to him and he becomes a very integral part of the movie.
This is a great holiday movie for anyone and everyone. The blend of comedy, fantasy, and touching real-life issues (like family and divorce) will make it an instant classic.

Once a year, there comes a time for families to get together and celebrate the magic of the holidays. The Santa Clause is a wonderful movie for the family to watch, one for all ages. The story is heart-warming and funny. Tim Allen is terrific. I recommend this movie for anyone who loves the Holiday season and believes in the spirit of Christmas.

I saw the original VHS years ago when it came out and it was great. So how come in this day and age of DVD digital storage does this DVD come off as a total rip off? Let me explain: Firstly, it’s not complete I mean where is “James Brown is Annie”, “Kill the White People” and other sketches contained on the original VHS cassette? Since one can store more on a DVD than a VHS why didn’t the producers of this DVD not make a simple transferral of the VHS cassette? As a consumer one expects quality and since many of the VHS excerpts are missing how can you possibly refer to it as The Best of Eddie Murphy (Bonus Edition) when the VHS format from years ago was vastly superior?

I don’t understand why this DVD collection is at least not a verbatim copy of the VHS cassette. They could of then added extras to it and hailed it as something special. I’m sure there would have been enough space on the DVD to incorprate all of the VHS cassette and then some extras making it a DVD worth having.

As it stands I now have to buy the original VHS cassete in order to enjoy my favourite sketches of Eddie Murphy. Thereby having good video quality (DVD) alongside an outdated format of inferior quality (VHS) and paying double the money.

I’m pretty sure Eddie Murphy had nothing to do with the production of this DVD he probably does not own the rights to his SNL years.I find it an insult to him and to the consumer not to give the public the best possible product which in this day and age is possible.

I regret having bought the DVD version and had I known sketches were missing I would not have purchased it at all.

First off, I love Eddie Murphy. In my opinion, he’s one of the more brilliant talents to come out of SNL. But it’s a crying shame that sketches that were included on the original VHS version of “Eddie Murphy: Best of SNL” have been deleted from the DVD version. My particular favorite piece (Eddie playing a rastafarian singing “we’re gonna kill da white people” at a meeting of mostly white VFW members) is NOT on this DVD along with a number of others. Have the SNL folks suddenly become squeamish and politically correct - I can only assume that such cowardice and overly correct behavior is at the root of such an obvious ommission. After having owned the VHS version, I can honestly say that I regret having purchased the DVD. I would return it if I could. Listen to the other viewers and don’t be fooled.
