The Evolution of Nursing Uniforms

Febbraio 23rd, 2010 by leila4891268

Nursing uniforms have been a essential allotment of the nursing field for over a century. The most influential and memorable woman of the nursing profession would have to be Florence Nightingale. By fighting for the health and medical care of the awful and under privileged during the mid 1800’s, Nightingale turned the nursing profession around from being something of a no-hope career to a well-behaved, prominent and critical one.

The beginnings of the nursing uniform were during the first world war. The American Red inferior was also serving as some reserves for the US Army, and armed service nurses would wear the same Red sinister uniform which was a white outfit with the prominent Red dismal to ogle. A cape was also included with the uniform. In this device, the nursing uniforms have changed gradually.

Gradually, the changes in uniform needed to closely match with the gain and function of the doctor. This drove considerable changes to the nursing uniforms in the design of functionality or practicality. Additional colors were introduced to allow for more convenient identification. The evolution of nursing uniforms have been driven by many factors. Lately, these factors have been mainly due to functionality and the role of the nurse, professionalism and even a tiny bit of style.

Patients in hospitals often seize comfort in brilliant that someone of authority and who is able to give care is point to. The nursing uniform has become synonymous with this and often goes a long plan into comforting the patient as well. With the popularity in male nursing, far more designs and styles have been emerging.

Nurses have strict rules about their uniforms and any nurse seen without their nursing uniforms often are reprimanded and are subject to review. Additionally, nurses will most likely have different uniforms for different tasks.

For example, they will most likely wear ’scrubs’ to the operating room. Lately, these scrubs have been seeing an increased rate of popularity in the US and Europe. Scrubs are shirts or tunic-style tops and trouser combinations. Originating from the term “scrubbing for surgery”, the scrubs are also what doctors wear in the operating room. The scrubs camp remains slightly divided, however, with some nurses enjoying the comfort of the garments while others are concerned about the image they project to patients by wearing scrubs.

Overall, nursing uniforms exist for a purpose. They offer easy identification, distinction in function, protection from bad contamination and comfort on the job.

Personalizing an Emergency Kit

Febbraio 23rd, 2010 by leila4891268

All sterling drivers should know the importance of having an emergency kit in their cars. Most of the cars approach with a first succor kit, and most of people fair hold one, but there are things that you may need that are not available. It is very well-known to personalize your have crisis kit. The first thing that should near with every kit is the instructions. It is virtually impossible to be of consume if you have all the supplies but has no clue on how to consume them. The kit you assemble should have instructions.

The next considerable thing you should have in the first relieve kit is medicine and bandages. Most kits reach with the bandages but very few have medicine. Depending on your needs, for example for frequent headaches, it is advisable to have a distress killer. If there are members of the family with special medical cases, their medication should be in a priority in the kit. Your first serve kit should have aspirin, gauze, moist wipes, antibiotic ointment, eyewash, and burn cream. It is recommended that you have a wide variety of bandages to handle any kind of injury. This means bandages ranging from shrimp sizes to the mountainous ones.

Flares and road triangles are also very principal. These items should be assign in mint (current) condition so that in case of any pain, they are readily available. Did you know that blankets and clothing are items that are rarely considered as section of most kits. These reach in handy in case of fires or being stranded somewhere at night. It is noble to always be prepared for anything. In some situations, a warm blanket and a change of clothes could effect a life.

It is always advisable to always have extra. Extra blankets, extra clothes, extra bandages. When an emergency occurs the driver is usually not the only one alive to. There might be other people in dire need and it is wonderful to be able to lend a hand. Among the extra clothes you should have a lustrous colored cloth. You might wonder what this is for; in case you do not have an emergency heed then you can tie the cloth somewhere visible on the car to signal for back. A roll of duct tape is hardly establish in an emergency kit but it s incredible how it comes in handy in case of emergencies. So your emergency kit should have one. A duct tape could momentarily fix a wrecked windshield wiper; it may possibly consume up glass debris; even mend a broken nose.

Many people have cell phones but have never considered having one in the emergency kit. The battery should always be recharged unbiased for emergencies. It should also be prepaid because most of the time people do not have funds when they need them. Some tools also advance in handy and should be in the emergency kit for example pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches and socket wrenches. A booster cable should advance in handy when jump starting a sinful or tiring, battery. A flash light should feature in the emergency kit. This is a very personalized kit.

The movie itself - compelling, bizarre, incomprehensible (slightly less so once you listen to the director’s commentary, but still a baffling story), and completely addictive. It’s a film you won’t be watching every week, but certainly once you put it on, you’ve pretty much committed yourself to falling under its spell for the duration.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pink Floyd - The Wall! Click Here

But I’m here to primarily discuss the diffrences between the two editions of the DVD. If you have the previous edition of this DVD, don’t bother getting this one thinking that you’re upgrading. The “limited edition” disc itself is absolutely no different than the old one - same menus, same extras (nothing more, nothing less), same audio encoding and video transfer, even the same artwork on the disc. The packaging is the only difference here, and it’s a beautiful slim digipak that looks more like “The Wall” album than the original box did. Of course, the original box mimicked the film’s promotional poster, so if you’re more of a purist in that sense, get that one. The box is then slipped into an clear acetate case with the movie’s logo printed on the outside. Inside is a fold-out of the movie poster and a few photos.

What’s odd though is that the “limited edition” is actually 5 bucks less than the previous version. Five bucks more just to get a standard plastic clamshell case? I think not! That in itself is what finally led me to purchase this movie, was the lower price!

Most clearly put, this movie is a spellbinding artistic masterpiece. It will evoke every possible emotion and leave you wanting more of even those that are “negative”.

Roger Waters knew when the album itself, a masterpiece all its own, was made that he wanted to eventually make an accompanying screenplay. The fact that the music of The Wall forms a story on its own is a testament to Waters’ vision. There is very little script in this movie, it is more of a visual aide to the music itself, and allows us to see what Waters really wanted us to see when the album was originally released. It is like an art gallery more than a movie, where each scene is full of both powerful meaning and subtle expression.

It spotlights the roller coaster ride of Pink’s tumultuous life, who is reportedly based on several influences. From Roger Waters’ own personal past, to his views on the influence of drugs on music and performance, to thoughts of the mentally unstable former member of Pink Floyd, Sid Barrett, this movie will both shock and move you.

I honestly cannot describe this movie and give it the justice it deserves. You simply must see it.

As for the DVD itself, the remastering is truly phenomenal. From start to finish the video is crisp, and the sound.. my god the sound. I dont know if I will ever find a movie which possesses equal richness of sound. This DVD uses both senses to their fullest potential.

Some person commented that the widescreen format meant losing a portion of the picture. Au contraire, widescreen is the only picture where you capture everything through the eyes of the director’s camera. It is the full screen format which loses the sides of the picture by stretching and trimming to a (roughly) 4:3 ratio. Unfortunately however, being only available in widescreen format on this DVD, those viewers with small televisions might be faced with a vertically short, albeit complete picture.

The DVD extras and menus are incredible. This is the first DVD I have seen which has menus to configure your sound system for optimum performance (speaker position and test). And the sound.. did I mention the sound?

This movie and DVD version deserves far more than 5 stars, and is the definitive “Final Cut” of Roger Waters’ vision.

Twelfth Night is available for streaming or downloading.

Trevor Nunn’s Twelfth Night sits up on the same pedestal as Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing. Not a suprise, either, given that both films came out of Branagh’s Renaissance Films. Reset in the Victorian era, Nunn maintains the delicate balance of comedy and drama (much like Much Ado), carried out in one amazing cast. Nunn does a wonderful job of keeping most of Shakespeare’s comedy in-tact, editing only when neccessary to appease a film audience (most noticeable in Viola’s famous “I left no ring with her” monologue being broken up throughout the film).

No member disappoints and each one excels in their own right. Helena Bonham Carter, queen of period films, plays an astounding Olivia with excellent timing. Imogen Stubbs, whom I’ve only seen play a small role in Sense and Sensibility, exceeds all expectations set for her in the role of Viola. And Ben Kingsley (yes, Ghandi), reminds us of his Royal Shakespeare Company roots as a multi-dimensional Feste.

The score, unhappily available on CD (albeit Kingley’s “The Wind and the Rain” is available on the CD collection “If Music Be the Food of Love: Shakespeare at the Movies”), is breathtaking and well-done, particularly for a play that includes so much music as a stage performance. It corrolates perfectly with the lush settings (often involving romantic sea-scapes and Victorian manor houses) and costumes.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment about this film is that it’s not available on DVD. However, it alone is reason enough for me to keep my VCR.

Trevor Nunn’s adaptation of “Twelfth Night” is a masterpiece of insight and nuance. Instead of simply playing up the obvious slapstick of this gender-bending comedy of mistaken identity, Nunn highlights the dark undertones of the plot which yield surprising depth and poignancy. Those familiar with the play will notice some alterations in the original text, but those who are new to Shakespeare will thank Mr. Nunn for making the story easier to follow and a pleasure to behold. For example, when Duke Orsino (Toby Stephens) utters the famous opening line of the play, “If music be the food of love, play on,” ten minutes have already elapsed. But what takes place in those ten minutes sets up the plot beautifully and brings the characters to life.

The story centers around two twins, Viola (Imogen Stubbs in a star-making performance) and Sebastian (Stephen Makintosh), who are shipwrecked and separated at sea, each fearing the other is dead. Viola washes up on the shore of a hostile country and disguises herself in her brother’s clothes to avoid capture and keep his memory alive. The other two main characters, Olivia (Helena Bonham Carter), and Orsino (Toby Stephens), are similarly troubled. Olivia mourns her own brother’s recent death and Orsino suffers passionate unrequited love for Olivia, who refuses to see him.

Viola’s male alter ego, Cesario, winds up in Orsino’s court, becomes his best friend, and (here’s the rub) romantic emissary to Olivia. What follows is a hilarious and poignant farce in which Olivia falls in love with Orsino’s messenger, Cesario (Viola) who, under her disguise, is desperately in love with Orsino. Meanwhile, mischievous members of Olivia’s household trick her arrogant butler, Malvolio (a brilliant Nigel Hawthorne), into believing that Olivia loves him, and another jealous suitor, the hapless Sir Andrew Agucheek (Nigel Grant), challenges Cesario to a duel. Through it all, the wry fool, Feste (Ben Kingsley), penetrates the confusion with a dry wit, a calming presence, and a surprisingly good singing voice(!). When Sebastian, a “dead ringer” for Cesario (Viola), finally arrives on the scene, the confusion rises to a fever pitch that only Shakespeare could unravel.

Trevor Nunn has assembled a brilliant cast led by the astonishingly versatile Imogen Stubbs. As Viola/Cesario, Stubbs gives a richly nuanced performance which ranges from deep pathos to antic comedy. It’s a shame that this intelligent, multi-faceted actress (who previously appeared in “Sense and Sensibility”) doesn’t get top billing for the film. This is not to say that the actress who does, Helena Bonham Carter, isn’t fabulous in her own right. Ms. Carter displays prodigious comic talents in “Twelfth Night” and surely has the most expressive eyebrows in cinema. Her reaction to Sebastian’s arrival is itself almost worth the price of admission. Ben Kingsley infuses the role of Feste with great humanity and warmth, and Toby Stephens is a handsome, noble Orsino. The cinematography is beautiful and Shaun Davey’s musical score is a delight. In a play where Shakespeare included so many songs, Davey contributes music that fits perfectly with the Victorian setting of Nunn’s adaptation. The way in which Nunn uses Feste’s final song to tie up the loose ends of the plot is but one of the many little touches that make this “Twelfth Night” a joy to watch again and again.

Long John Willoughby

This Frank Capra film, unlike others he had made, leaned more towards drama than humor. Though there is humor, and many charming moments intelligent Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck, the tone of the Robert Riskin screenplay, based on a fable by Richard Connell and Robert Presnell, has more serious implications than Capra’s other films. For that reason, and perhaps because the prints of this film are not as suitable as the others, “Meet John Doe” sometimes gets unfairly dismissed when Capra’s films are discussed. This was the meat in what many call “Capracorn.”

Barbara Stanwyck is Ann Mitchell, a reporter soon to be unemployed when her paper is gobbled up by D.B. Norton (Edward Arnold) . Desparate to preserve the thirty dollar a week salary that keeps her two young sisters and her mom (Spring Byington) afloat, she begs editor Henry Connell (James Gleason) for her job serve, but her plea falls on deaf ears. She exits with a column that’s a accurate doozy, pretending she has received a letter from a “John Doe” who, because of the injustice in the world, the dwelling of civilization, and the downtrodden, plans to raze himself at Christmas.

A groundswell of relieve for John Doe gets Ann her job wait on, but now she and boss Connell must derive a “John Doe.” In walks Long John Willoughby (Gary Cooper), a hungry baseball player with a poor coast. He and his pal, Colonel (Walter Brennan), are unbiased hungry enough to play along. Colonel has reservations from the get-go, however, tremulous that Long Johm will become a helot–a guy with a bank story.

Long John objective wants to score enough to earn the arm he injured pitching a 19 inning game fixed by Bonesetter Brown, but his worried affection for Ann keeps him around long enough to create a radio speech, written from words in her father’s diary. His speach spreads the John Doe movement all across the country. It is the crusty Colonel who sees the snort break coming, however, and takes off.

Clubs initiate up everywhere, only the “runt” people allowed to join. People originate treating their neighbors with kindness, showing the spirit of Christmas on a day-to-day basis. D.B. Norton, however, has political aspirations, and sees a design to twist the movement to fit his ambitions. It is Henry Connell who clues in Long John on what is about to happen, letting the air out of his balloon and shattering his smitten image of Ann, with her chestnut hair and substantial legs. What follows, as the country discovers John Doe was a spurious, will lead Long John to a rooftop overlooking the city on a snowy Christmas night.

Stanwyck is unbelievable here, as Ann slowly comes to realize she has found a man like her father but may have helped to slay him. Cooper is memorable as Long John Willoughby, a paralyzed ball player who realizes he has approach to stand for more than he ever could have on the pitching mound. Brennan is his usual expansive character, looking out for Long John as noteworthy as he can.

There are some warm and sentimental moments between Cooper’s Long John and Stanwyck’s Ann mixed in with the social drama, and some charm as well. Cooper’s scene with Ann’s mom, whose succor he needs to ask her daughter to marry him, has a sweetness to it that is long gone from today’s films. And the baseball scene in a hotel room, when they play pretend ball, is a classic.

This is a astounding film about the puny guy that sometimes gets analyzed too noteworthy. All Capra was trying to do, was remind people that the first John Doe came a long time ago, and people peaceful weren’t listening. This is a film that works best if you forget it is a Frank Capra portray, and objective luxuriate in it on its beget merits. It can then be placed proudly beside the director’s other classics on your movie shelf.

Yes, I thought the first Michael Bay Transformers was bad. I wasn’t expecting the sequel to be much better, but in the back of my mind I was hoping. Michael Bay apparently decided there wasn’t enough crass humor, overt sexuality, poor character development, useless moving parts, explosions, and nameless robots transforming into formless metallic amoebas in the first movie. So now there is more of all that in this one. Of course, it doesn’t make the movie better, just longer.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! Click Here

Negatives:

1) The twins. I don’t think I need to explain this.

2) Sam’s parents, excessive comic relief, no importance to the story.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! Click Here

3) Mikaela and the Decepticon fem-bot. Ok, I’m a male, yes I think Meghan Fox is hot. I personally, do not mind seeing her wearing skimpy revealing clothes. But come on, give her some depth. First of all, this movie is being used to sell toys to 6-year-olds. There is no need for such overt female objectification in this movie. Seriously, she spends most of the movie with that pouty expression and posing seductively, instead of acting. Same complaint with the “fem-bot”, I felt it was completely unnecessary to the story.

4) Everyone is comic relief. Ok, I’m all for comic relief in action movies. But seriously, you can’t build an action movie around an entire cast of comedians. More than 3 comic relief characters, and you should call it “Giant Robot Movie” (ie. Scary Movie series).

5) Visual effects. Sometimes less is more. The robots are too complex, too many moving parts. It is very hard to follow the action trying to follow these overly detailed monochromatic machines as they fly through cities causing random destruction everywhere. In the original cartoon, the simpler designs were easier to identify and they were distinctively color-coded. Most of the Decepticons look the same.

6) There are no rules. Basically, Michael Bay is telling us that alien robots can do whatever they please. They can change their alt-forms at will or become giant robo-amoebas. If you hack them to pieces, each part can become a completely new Transformer. Robots can transform into people. Mechanical devices can turn into dust, communicate telepathically with humans, then reform themselves from said dust and resurrect dead Transformers. And other mechanical devices or even a tiny piece of them can turn earth machines into robots (complete with machine-guns) or resurrect Transformers.

7) Questionable motivations on both sides. So at the end of episode 1, this autobot declared he would stay with Sam forever and ever. Ah, how touching. Now Sam decides to go to college and he won’t take Bumblebee with him. What a jerk. He saved the world once, but now Optimus Prime asks for his help to do it again, and college is more important. Why does Sam give the All-Spark sliver to his unrealistically hot girlfriend for safe-keeping, instead of Bumblebee, Optimus or any of those government guys? Why do the Decepticons want to destroy the sun? I mean really, Cybertron is supposedly destroyed, do they have another planet to inhabit once this solar system is wiped out?

Positives:

1) Peter Cullen and Frank Welker

2) Explosions

Neutral:

1) The battle with Optimus Prime in the woods was really cool, but it didn’t have nearly the emotional impact of the animated movie from the 80’s because it was decided early on that they could just resurrect him before the end of the movie. And with no “Hot Rod” character, Sam’s episode of feeling guilty seemed pretty shallow.

All in all, a terrible movie from a critical point of view. People will like the movie if they are a big fan of loud booms and not optional things like story. I feel guilty spending money on this disaster, though.

Okay. Let me get this straight. If there was a right to refund law if you didn’t like a film, I would take EVERY SINGLE PENNY I SPENT ON THIS AWFUL MOVIE. Oh yeah, the CGI was astonishing, but everything else you can flush down the toilet!!! The plot sucked, sexual humor was waaaaay to much, and cursing! The cursing made me feel like I was watching an R rated movie!!!!! There were 2 F bombs in this film I believe. Very intolerable for a kids movie. Not even Star Trek (2009) had the F bomb. (Well in the front with the Beastie Boys song) But it was barley noticeable! I didn’t even hear it. I went by myself to watch this at the theaters, and I heard one of the mothers of 3 kids complaining it was a very immature movie.

Shame on Micheal Bay, for making such a crappy film, with such crappy actors, and a crappy plot.

To me, Star Trek totally owned this film for this year.

In conclusion, I will not spend anymore money for this movie, even if I could spend 1 dollar at Redbox to rent it.
