I bought all the seasons of this show and remembered why I cried when the series was over. Anyone wanting clever stories, mesmerizing locals, and characters you will love (and some you will hate)- they will become your world while watching and you can’t wait to see what happens next. So much story in each episode, so much action!

Alias has everything..action, suspense, romance,..overall great story-telling. The cast of actors & actresses is phenomenal. It’s really sad this show is no longer on television.

While the movie is likely to be enjoyed by anybody who likes screwball comedies and biting satire, the quality of the DVD transfer leaves much to be desired.

After a slow start, the sketches that comprise “Amazon Women On The Moon”, a.k.a. “Kentucky Fried Movie II”, pick up speed and reach increasing levels of absurdity, up to a widow’s wake which turns into a roast. Steve Guttenberg’s experiences with the opposite sex and a seventeen-year old teenager’s horrible condom buying experience are painful and extremely funny to watch. By the time Russ Meyer (yes, *that* Russ Meyer) appears as a video store clerk, you have learned to stop worrying about whether this is sub-standard entertainment or not, because the sketches get too funy to care. The whole movie culminates in Carrie Fisher’s appearance in an “educational movie”, playing a woman with a “social disease”.

The experience is marred, however, by the poor quality of the DVD transfer. The picture is blurry (this disc has obviously been transferred from video) and the sound is mono. Often enough, horrible compression artifacts appear in the picture, distorting the image beyond recognition. A shame really, since this movie really deserved a better transfer.

From a nude playmate attending church with mom and dad, to Don “No Soul” Simmons crooning “Tie a yellow ribbon ’round the old oak tree” this movie has something to tickle the funny bone of anyone who’s ever questioned where American culture’s headed (or where it’s been, for that matter). The disparate snippets of stories are loosely tied together by a late- late-night movie (called -surprise! - ‘Amazon Women on the Moon’) and by a hapless wanderer who remotes himself into all the action (the weakest element of the movie). Best viewed late at night with good buddies who share your slightly off-center sense of humor; wear a seat belt or you might hurt yourself when you fall out of your chair laughing.

In this disc, the episodes include the introduction of Omega Supreme and Roablock, the Re-birth of Unicron, and the death of two characters, who I won’t mention if you do not know and don’t want it spoiled. These episodes mainly concern Unicron’s re-birth and possessing both Megatron and Shockblast. These are some great Energon episodes, but again, they skip episodes and it interferes with continuity

This is the last cd in the energon series, i know there are some more episode to conclude the series but I can’t seem to find them which is very disappointing to me.

I am a geek that knew only the G1 series (loved is of course) and now as a 40 years old geek watching it with my 2 little boy who are enamored with the transformers.

The energon episodes offering good plot and animation even though some episodes are missing - don’t get it - but overall good - recommended.

I just wish they will produce the last energon which offer the demise of megatron.

Ang Lee breaks through again with a masterful adaptation of Eileen Chang’s short story, Lust/Caution (like what he did with Annie Prolux’s similarly brief story, Brokeback Mountain). While the hype seems to be mostly misplaced on the controversial acrobatics displayed by Tony Leung and Tang Wei in bed, Lee’s storytelling leaves one breathless.

The love story unfolds against the backdrop of 1930’s Japanese-invaded Shanghai where tyranny and suffering were synonymous. Nubile Wang Jia Zhi played by Tang Wei joins the resistance movement and gets herself drawn into the role of a spy to crumble the traitor, Mr Yee. In between the espionage and wild climatic trysts, both of them unknowingly embroil themselves in love and deceit, much deeper than they would have liked themselves to.

Tang Wei, as a newcomer to cinema, is impeccable. Her evolution from a wide-eyed country girl to a seductive temptress is enough to make the hardest of most men, in this case, the distrusting Mr. Yee fall for her. Wei acts pretty much on instincts and her body language does wonders at seducing the somewhat vulnerable Mr. Yee played by multiple-award winner Tony Leung. Wei breaks down in the memorable scene where she’s talking to the resistance leader on her unyieldingly sacrificial role that is both a torment and insidious attack to her emotions.

As usual, Tony has the penchant for playing dark brooding men and in this instance, an evil Chinese traitor. He does not act. His presence already commands attention as the cynical no-nonsense minister. The pivotal sex scenes, split into three parts, are not just there for visual enhancement. They actually convey the shift in roles between the two throughout their complex relationship. The raw emotions displayed on their faces were enough to convince anyone hard-hearted to think twice about the essence of love. I must say these are some of the best bed scenes you’ll ever witness on film.

Of course, the supporting cast of Joan Chen as Mrs Yee and Wong Lee-Hom as Tang Wei’s resistance compatriot, Kuang Yu Min, is every bit just as spectacular. In the end, the story about love is bittersweet. You’ll also see how fervent the resistance movement, which puts the enemy above self and others, was through Wang Jia Zhi’s eyes. Lust Caution is 157 minutes’ of rewarding watch that will linger on in your minds well after the credits roll. (A+)

I saw this movie twice in the theater - very unusual for someone as critical of movies as I am. The first time I went by myself, and the second time I took my husband, who was not initially interested in the story line (espionage and all). He also liked it a lot (though he did not have as much of a personal connection as I did with the film). I was like in a zone for a few days after I saw the movie. It really shook me to the core in a sense. A very powerful movie in and of itself, it moves me particularly because I am orinigally from China and Eileen Chang was one of my faovrite writers when I was a teenager book worm. Having grown up surrounded by the communisit propaganda, I found it refreshing to watch a movie so artfully done to create a theme about love, sexuality and loyalty. It shows how innocent and ignorant the young revolutionaries could be (something that was obviously omitted from our history lessons). This is a movie about powerful human emotions, like all the other movies directed by Ang Lee. I’m also happy to see Ang Lee sticking to making movies based on good, solid stories, instead of falling into the ‘glitz overriding story’ trap like so many other talented Chinese directors, Zhang Yimou and Cheng Kaige specifically.

Ang Lee said that he made this film for the Chinese audience, but I also read that he was disappointed by the fact that the Chinese media focused predominantly on the raw, sex scenes. I can understand his frustration. I wonder really how the mainland Chinese will embrace such a tale. Eileen Chang was never a Communist writer. In the book and the movie, the revolutionaries were referred to as ‘the people from Chongqing.’ As the Nationalist Party was based in Chongqing at the time (and the Communists in Yan’an), the revoluntionaries in the book were not Communinist members but Nationalists. That sort of contradicts everything we have learned in history lessons about the Communisit being the main heroes fighting against the Japanese and the Nationalists (the Kuomingtang) being wimpy traitors. Because of these reasons, I doubt mainland China will allow the movie to be shown in public.

But it doesn’t mean the Chinese will be denied access to this beautiful film, thanks to the illegal DVD pirating industry. My sister-in-law in China has already bought the film (for a dollar) and watched it. Funny thing is she had very similar reaction to it as I did. My brother said she wouldn’t talk to him for a few hours.

I disagree with some critics who called Ang Lee ‘indecisive’ in directing the movie. I think everything was very deliberately done and Ang Lee was very clear on what he planned to do with the story. He said that it was one of his favorite stories written by Eileen Chang. I suppose if you don’t like the story (such as some other reviewers), you wouldn’t like the movie. But to me, the story can be interpreted in many ways, and Ang Lee has done a brilliant job conveying what Eileen Chang wanted her story to convey. The sex scenes (not in the book) are integral to the story, as Eileen Chang wrote, “If the path to a man’s heart is through his stomache, then the path to a woman’s heart is through her v….” The movie is certainly not for the faint of heart.

By the way, the soundtrack is beautiful. I downloaded it from iTunes. Before I receive the DVD in the mail, the soundtrack will do. (But I wouldn’t want a Chinese film that’s dubbed in English. That’s a crime. I’m buying it from somewhere else.)

I have to admit that my first reaction to seeing this on the video rack was suspicion that this might be another Aero-Troopers, the Plan-9-from-Outer-Space-awful, worst computer animated film ever made I wasted 90 minutes of life I can never get back upon the last time I took a chance on a computer animated film I’d never heard of before. However, despite some eerie similarities in world construction, this turns out to be one of the BEST computer animated films ever made, one I can recommend without hesitation.

To begin with the world of Dragon Hunters is simply gorgeous, a world of islands floating around in the sky, upon which gravity works oddly when it works at all. But this beautiful world is threatened to varying degrees by the dragons of the title, which range in degree of threat from annoying crop stealers to terrifying world devourers, thus the necessity for hunters of same.

Twenty years ago Lord Arnold lost his sight and his health trying to stop the World Gobbler’s last rampage, now he impatiently and all but hopelessly awaits the return of the knights he dispatched to try and stop his pending rampage. So his fairy tale loving niece, Zoe, decides to lend a hand by sneaking out and finding some noble knights like those in her fairy tales, but what she finds are our two hapless heroes. Can a little girl’s belief in them inspire a couple of two-bit, fly-by-night, down-on-their-luck dragon hunters into succeeding where a troop of noble knights failed, into stopping the most horrifying dragon this world has ever seen?

Well, the answer is obvious, but the fun is in how we get there.

Gwizdo and Lian-Chu make for a hilariously mismatched pair, whose widely differing reactions to Zoe, the dragon hunter groupie who is not quite as naive as she appears, threaten to tear their partnership apart,…

assuming of course that anyone survives this fiasco.

Note: Some retailers package this DVD with a free Dragon Hunters comic book, which is little to get excited about IMHO; Sergio Aragones did this sort of thing much better in Groo the Wanderer. The first 17 episodes of the first season of the animated TV show, which this movie is a prequel to, have been released on DVD: Dragon Hunters: Vol. 1 It’s A Dragon’s Life (ep. 1-4), Dragon Hunters: Vol. 2 Dead Dragon Walking (ep. 5-8), Dragon Hunters: Vol. 3 There’s No Place Like Home! (ep. 9-11), Dragon Hunters: Vol. 4 Don’t Look Now (ep. 12-14), and Dragon Hunters: Vol. 5 Unwelcome Guests (ep. 15-17).

I have to be honest, I don’t have the DVD but have an electronic copy of this film and have watched it several times. I’ve never read the comic or watched the tv show, or even heard of it before I saw the movie and was completely blown away by everything from the script to the amazing characters but most of all by the imagery.

If ever a film called for a blu-ray release, it would be this one.

I’ve been waiting for about a year for one to be released but just saw the regular DVD with comic book bundle at Sams’ Club yesterday. I almost got it but I’m still hoping there’ll be a blu-ray version.

John Cleese and Tom Konkle are two generations of sketch comedians cut from the same cloth. Cleese is legendary and Konkle is a rising star whose has drawn comparisons to Cleese along the way. Interestingly Konkle falls comfortably into the Michael Palin mode offering support and comedy to compliment Cleese’s style rather than be too similar to it. The writing on the show is exceptional as are the interviews with a who’s who of the football world. (soccer in America) The A-Z format for the sketches creates a wonderfully, surreal and silly flow and weaves together some very dissimilar and high -minded concepts about the game. Watch if you love football and watch if you want to see two funny, talented comedians working together with comic ease.

I just purchased this new anniversary edition of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (50th for the book and 40th for the special). First, this is a single disc release - not the two-disc set that was originally announced. I stuck the disc into my player to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised. “The Grinch” has been cleaned-up and looks beautiful. And, yes, the Grinch is now GREEN! YEA!!! But be warned, “Horton Hears A Who” has NOT been cleaned-up. It is the same version that appeared on the previous release. There is a new special feature that looks interesting. BUT, there are a few things that have disappeared: Chapter stops for both specials are GONE!, Subtitles for both specials are GONE!, and the commentary for “The Grinch” is GONE! I suppose I can live without those in exchange for a green Grinch, though it is disappointing. Be prepared for the missing features if you plan to upgrade. I do recommend this, though, as “The Grinch” looks so much better than the previous release.

***UPDATE*** 11/9/09

This anniversary edition has been discontinued and replaced by a very similar edition. The new 2009 edition was actually created in 2008 (the trailers are for upcoming DVDs - one year ago) and there are a couple of changes. First, the “Horton Hears A Who” feature has been dropped, I assume, because it has since gotten its own release. Second, the audio commentary has been restored. And third, the subtitles have been restored. Chapter stops are still missing but that is ok as the special is only 25 minutes or so. I had a lot of trouble getting this edition. I went through two copies from Amazon (and got a full refund), a copy from Target, and a copy from Warner Brothers itself (they replaced the Target copy). The problem was that the cover was from the new 2009 version but the disc was the 2006 disc. I finally found a correct version at Walmart today. There is no way to know if it is correct until you open it. The 2006 disc label says “50th Birthday Deluxe Edition” while the 2009 disc label just says “Deluxe Edition.” The transfer itself is still the color-corrected, green-Grinch version found on the 2006 DVD.

Forget the hideously overblown film version — if you want the real thing, buy this double treat and enjoy the Grinch’s story the way it was intended to be seen. Boris Karloff’s voice lends this wonderfully inspiring story a hint of real menace, and the animation, spare and imaginative, creates an oddly familiar world that is both melancholy and Christmasey — the perfect combo. The songs have become holiday traditions. The story of the Grinch is as much a mystery of faith and joy as it is an entertaining comedy. You will get the additional family treat of Horton Hears A Who, also an inspiring tale that explores the value of life itself. Dr. Seuss’ brilliance with conceptual family entertainment is on clear display in both of these classic stories; you will not be disappointed. Merry Christmas.

IF you’ve never seen a Mark Forest muscle man movie this might be a good introduction, although I prefer him in “Mole Men Against the Son of Hercules” and “Kindar the Invulnerable.” Forest had the most phenomenal torso of any of the Italian Hercules actors who flooded Rome during the heyday of “Hercules.” Steve Reeves is still the apogee of blazing male beauty but Forest was more massive with enormous pecs, lats and a famously ridged stomach. His face was a work of art and his frequent scenes with actresses were sensuously believable. Forest exuded sex while Reeves was more godlike and remote. Forest was the most popular physique model of the 50s and went on to win Mr. America and Mr. Universe. He later became Mae West’s favorite muscleboy in her Las Vegas act, next to Reg Lewis. When you watch him, nearly naked, in all of his work, it is to be stare in wonder that a man could be so beautifully put together. Everything from his head to his legs and feet are all perfectly portioned. He left Italian movies at the top of his career and went on to become an opera singer and performed all over Europe. Nowadays, he still sings and teaches opera in los Angeles where he is–surprise–a personal trainer to the stars.

Kinda surprised I did not like this one, but whoever made this, put a lot of money into a flop. I think they tried to make a benhur without Christ as the Focal point of repentance, and took the name of Samson but without the great blessings of God in his final deathbed repentance, and thought that many would watch glory to men and false gods of egypt:-). The acting turned out lifeless, with no real entertainment value than if someone had taken some mud and thew them at the gold plated screen. So sad all the money spent to glorify other gods. Give me 10 Commandments or Ben Hur (the new cartoon or the older movie) or The Robe. This movie turned out to be 1/1000th of the value of those movies. Such a sad waste of talent and time :-(.

This is a fun little Halloween story about 3 sisters that are witches. Two of the sisters are incompetent and seem to get their spells a little mixed up. The other sister is in charge and very powerful indeed. The otehr two are trying to make pumpkin pies to throw at trick or treaters when they accidentally turn their sister into a pumpkin that rolls away. They are tempted to leave her like that since she is so mean, but decide to track her down and help her. In the meantime a young boy finds the withc-pumpkin and thinks she is a battery operated talking pumpkin and used her as the centerpiece for his Halloween party. In this story a witch needs her hands to do a spell so she can’t save herself and now needs her sisters.

All in all a good story for the holiday, very funny, and no scary moments for smaller kids. Lots of laughs for the older ones, cute characters, good jokes and sight gags. I reccommend.

My sons ages 3 & 5 absolutely LOVE this video. It is their favorite Halloween video. They watch it every year, over and over as Halloween draws near. They think it is hilarious! The animation is good and the story line is very cute.
